Fixing Cisco VPN Reason 442 Failed Virtual Adapter Error

A KB to fix the Cisco VPN error message:
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client.
Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapter.
1.

Open Control Panel

a) Click the round Start button and then select Control Panel
b) Click Classic View on the left side of the Control Panel
2.

Open Network Settings

a) Open the Network and Sharing Center
b) Click Change Adapter Settings on the left panel
3.

Check Adapter State

a) Find the Local Area Connection adapter relating to the Cisco Systems VPN Adapter
b) If it is Enabled, right-click on it and then select Disable, which should fix your problem. If not, go to Step 4

4.

Diagnose Virtual Adapter Fix

a) Right-click on the adapter and select Enable
b) Right-click on it again and select Diagnose
c) Select Reset the network adapter
Now wait for the reset to complete (can take up to 60 seconds or more). If the adapter is still Enabled right-click on it and then select Disable and then try to connect with Cisco VPN again
